Coming Zune: A REAL MP3 Player

At the beginning of June I was ranting about my disdain for iPods.  I like the idea okay, and I still think Apple has done a brilliant job of branding (they turn a normal posted audio file into a "podcast"...excellent job fellas...) but I've been waiting for something more. Something better.  Something that I don't need to use iTunes with.

Enter the Zune!  It looks like the iPod killer from Microsoft is fully moving forward.  Geeks have known about this for months, and I've seen "secret" photos of the device and read insider blogs.  It looks like Microsoft is now going public with things, especially their new music "approach".  Zune should be good because it's won't be as stinkin' proprietary and narrowly focused as the iPod/iTunes marriage.  Not because Microsoft doesn't want to be proprietary, but they've lost enough anti-trust lawsuits to make your head spin, so they have to have it a little more cross-platform.  In fact, in their recent proclamation about their direction and focus, they talk a lot about allowing third parties to easily integrate with their junk.

So I'm excited for Zune!  I was just looking at my little MP3 player on the treadmill yesterday, noting that it doesn't have much longer before it gives up the ghost.  I've been hard on it.  So anti-podites...stay tuned...Zune is coming by the end of the year hopefully.

New Blog Subscription

I use Google Reader as my RSS feed reader, even though Outlook 2007 Beta 2 has it built right in.  Anyway...I am pretty tight with adding new subscriptions.  I currently subscribe to about 25 blogs, and I'm hesitant to really add any more right now because, well...I would just read them.  It's like subscribing to 30 magazines...will you really truly read them?

Saw one today that I liked.  I read.  I was entertained and informed.  I subscribed.

Check it out: Ragamuffin Soul (nice nod to Brennan Manning).  This dude has a nice combo of content, graphics, tats, video and facial hair!  I like him already. LOL.

Pile o' Dell

DellpileWe received a pallet of computers from Dell today.  Yes, a pallet.  I just enjoy that.  Here is a picture, sitting in our lobby.  There is just something so right about having your computers delivered shrink-wrapped and in a cargo truck. :)

Do something else FIRST…

Good post over at lifehacker today about controlling your work flow.  Point #1...do something else BEFORE you check your email when you get to work in the morning.

Author of Never Check Email in the Morning Julie Morgenstern suggests spending the first hour of your workday email-free. Choose one task - even a small one - and tackle it first thing. Accomplishing something out of the gate sets the tone for the rest of your day and guarantees that no matter how many fires you're tasked with putting out the minute you open your email client, you still can say that you got something done. Once you're "open for business" and paying attention to incoming requests, it's too easy to get swept away into the craziness. So get your day started off on the right foot, with just one thing done.

I struggle with this.  I always wonder where my morning time goes...and I know the answer...it's to my inbox!  Argh.  I reported a while back that I had my inbox reduced to almost nothing.  Today I'm starting the day off with 94 items in there.  Not good!  I'm pushing the century mark again.  By the end of today I'll be down below 50.  By the end of the week below 10.  I can do it.  How is YOUR inbox?  Do you control it, or does it control you?
