TweetSuite WordPress Plugin

TweetSuite WordPress Plugin

I just installed a WordPress plugin that I’m pretty excited about, TweetSuite.  Dan Zarrella announced its release this morning, and I quickly installed it.  If you are a WordPress blogger and use Twitter, I think this is a mandatory install for you because it does several important things.

  • A “Tweet This” button is placed at the beginning of your post, much like the “Digg This” buttons that are so popular
  • A list of Tweetbacks (mentions and links on Twitter) at the bottom of the post, which act like track backs from other blogs
  • Inclusion of several optional widgets, like “Recently Tweeted” and “My Favorited Tweets”
  • Option to send notification to Twitter with the publishing of a new post
  • Completely self-sufficient code.  It doesn’t pass thru the author’s server or use Javascripts, so it should be pretty stable

This is one of the more exciting plugins that I’ve seen developed in a long time, and it integrated seamlessly with my WP 2.7 install.  Go download it for yourself and give it a try!  I would love to hear what you think about it.

Hope this isn’t a lame question, but I can’t get anything to work with my wordpress blog. Tried to paste a tokbox vid into it and other widgets and nothing works.

Do I have to go get someone to host it for this stuff to work? I am so outta my league here, but hey, I want the plugins. I crave the plugins.

@Dawn…Not a lame question at all. Video and stuff should imbed. I’m on my way out the door, I’ll take a peek when I get back. :)

it only works with wordpress.org accounts, not wordpress.com

    that is probably the issue.

  • Rick said,

Thanks for passing this one along, Matt, I’ll definitely take a closer look at it.

    Loaded and rolling.

    We’ll see how it goes.

Only thing it appears to be missing is being hosted on WordPress.org so it’s installable from within the 2.7 dashboard. Just for that, I’m going to wait a while until I get around to it, rather than installing in a couple of clicks right now :-) Sounds good though!

@David…hahaha…yeah, the FTP upload is such a pain, it takes almost a minute. :P

Howdy. You seem like you might could answer a question or two. Struggling with the Tweetsuite plugin. I uninstalled it after it garbled my layout/theme and actually makes the text of my posts invisible. Trying to figure out where my issues are. Any thoughts? It seems to work for everyone else. If ya get a chance… throw an email my way.

    be careful with this one.

    @John…care to elaborate?

  • alex mclean said,

matt, got tweetsuite rolling on my deal.. the links on my site aren’t connecting to my twitter account… kind of strange. you got any thoughts?

Do NOT use TweetSuite, it will slow down your blog!

It is written improperly. It attempts to use the tr.im bookmarklet to shorten the URL (indeed the author didn’t even have the courtesy to use the tr.im API). API like traffic for tr.im must use the API, that is what it is there for. Additionally it wouldn’t work even if he had written it improperly because he doesn’t understand how some URL shorteners such as tr.im work.

The author has refused to fix his wordpress plugin and remove tr.im. It has generated an enormous amount of traffic to a free service that we pay for out of our pocket. As a result tr.im is banning any traffic coming from a blog using this plugin. This will slow down your pageloads for several seconds before it times out on its connection to tr.im.
